NEMA coils are AC only. TeSys N comes with 120 VAC coils (24 VAC on Sizes 00–1). For a 24 VDC PLC output, use an interposing relay or the TeSys Deca Open Starter Selector. Type S adds Form S (separate control) automatically when the coil differs from the line.

3Overload

Same catalog number for Class 10 or 20. Set the switch on the relay at installation.
LR9D trip class is a switch on the relay: same catalog number.

Reference tables

Ratings by NEMA size Type S and TeSys N, Sizes 00–7

Digest 179 Tables 16.34, 16.80, 16.86 and 16.89. Size 1P is a Type S single-phase starter only. Size 7 is TeSys N only.

Open catalog numbers by size 8536, 8736, 8502, 8702, T36, T02

Type S: class + type + coil code + forms in alphanumerical order, for example 8536SCO3V02H30S (leave out H30 for melting alloy heaters). TeSys N: replace ●● with the coil code, G7 (120 VAC, Sizes 00–5), F7 (120 VAC, Sizes 6–7) or B7 (24 VAC, Sizes 00–1). "—" = not listed.

Overloads for TeSys N contactors LRD bimetal and LR9D electronic

Digest Tables 16.42 and 16.43. LRD = Class 10 with single-phase (phase-loss) sensitivity, LRD…L = Class 20. LR3D versions (without single-phase sensitivity) are for single-phase motors. LR9D: Class 5/10/20/30 selectable, Sizes 00–1.

Motor Logic dial ranges Type S forms and TeSys N T36

Digest Tables 16.315 and 16.40. A Size 1 T36 can be ordered with a smaller relay: add 0 (6–18 A), 9 (3–9 A) or 8 (1.5–4.5 A) before the coil code, for example T36CN130G7.

Class 2510 open manual starters Type F, Types M and T

Digest Tables 16.1, 16.3 and 16.16. Melting alloy heaters: Type F uses Heater Table 43 (one A-type heater, standard trip only); Types M and T use Table 1 (standard), Table 72 (quick) or SB slow-trip units, small-enclosure table (Table 2 / 73 for large enclosures). DC versions and Class 2511 reversing / 2512 two-speed starters: contact the A&C Team.

Coil voltage codes

All NEMA coils are AC. Type S: 24 VAC not on Sizes 4–6, and needs Form S on Sizes 00–3. TeSys N DC coils (BD) were discontinued; for a 24 VDC control signal, use an interposing relay or a TeSys Deca starter with a 24 VDC coil.

NEC motor full-load current Tables 430.248 & 430.250

Use the table current to size the starter and conductors (NEC 430.6(A)(1)). Set overloads from the motor nameplate FLA (NEC 430.6(A)(2)).
